Poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy is the author of "Independence Anthem", which is a symbol of a nation's struggle for existence. He is known by the titles "Poet of the Motherland" and "National Poet". Along with "Independence March", "Danakkale Saga", "Nightingale" and "Safahat", which brings together poems from seven poetry books published between 1911-1933, are among his most valuable works. At the request of Minister of National Education Hamdullah Subhi Tanrıover, his friend Hasan Basri Bey persuaded him to participate in the national march competition.
